Some would say I have a “gift” of being able talk to the animals, but I would say that I have the gift of perseverance. When I took an animal communication class back in 2001, it became clear to me that it was, and still is my life’s purpose. However, being able to do it naturally was a stretch.
I had been an accountant for a number of years, so I was always thinking with the left side of my brain. From the left side of the brain, everything is logical, rational, and everything has to make sense. Boy, did I find out differently with this kind of work.
Animal communication is all about tapping into the right side of your brain. The creative side. The side that uses symbols, pictures, feelings, and emotions. This is how Spirit communicates.
Talking with the animals wouldn’t be easy for me, but I persevered. Something deep inside of me wouldn’t let me give up. I knew it was my destiny. The animals needed me to learn this and with their help, I did.
The first day of my animal communication class I was frustrated because I didn’t get the words, through no fault of my teacher, Marcia Zais. My mind chatter just would not shut up. Can anyone else relate? The second day of the class was for more advanced techniques. I hung in there and I was glad I did because I had the most incredible experience.
One the techniques that we were to practice was being able to sense and feel what it was like being in a particular animal’s body. Could you not see how valuable that would be? You would be able to know how they feel literally, and any discomfort they were having. Priceless!
I was to tune into “Barney”, a beautiful horse spirit, and ask him what it had felt like to be in his body while he was on Earth. I closed my eyes for a nano second and all of a sudden I felt like I was literally in a horse’s body! I could feel the immense power and strength Barney had. I could see a pasture in my mind’s eye. He decided to run so I could feel how glorious it felt. I could feel the sweat on his skin. His nostrils breathing hard, the air flowing in and out. It was AMAZING!
Needless to say, I was hooked! I had never had an experience like that ever in my entire life! It took some practice for me to get the words. The animals knew I needed patience, so they worked with me on that issue, thank goodness. The animals know your strengths and weaknesses. They know you better than you know yourself. I will be forever grateful to Barney and my animal communication teacher, Marcia Zais. That one experience changed my life and set me on a journey into the wonderful and mystical world of talking with the animals!
Did you ever just meet someone in your life that would change it forever? It all started when I met “Ted”, a huge, larger than life samoyed sixteen years ago. Ted had severe hip pain and needed surgery, but he didn’t do well under anesthesia, so his person was looking for an alternative way to help him. Having picked up a business card and flyer of mine, she agreed to give Reiki a try.
During the visits of giving Reiki to Ted, a friendship grew between her and I and we have been best friends ever since. On one of my visits, she handed me a book about Animal Communication. I tried to do it from the instructions in the book, but just couldn’t seem to do it. I clearly needed an in person teacher!
Not finding any teachers in the Kansas City area, a friend of mine just "happened" to know a teacher who lived in Vermont that would fly in to teach it, providing there were enough students. Calling all my animal loving friends, I was able to have just enough people to have the class happen. My friend even hosted the class.
The universe conspired in so many ways to have me learn how to talk to the animals. My journey to becoming an animal communicator started with that big white fluffy samoyed, "Ted". He has since passed and is helping the newly transitioned puppies in Heaven now. He’s got a booming laugh like Santa Claus and a heart of gold. I am forever grateful for him and my best friend, who made it all possible.
It’s interesting how the Universe conspires and leads you down a path that you would have never believed for yourself in a million years. Pay attention to coincidences. That’s how the Universe works. Who knows what gifts may be just around the corner?
Have you ever felt stuck and have had the same story going over and over in your head with no resolution? Being human, I think we all have been in the mud, unable to see our way out of the fog. Energy needs to move as one of it’s main principles. Stagnant, frozen, or irregular energies can cause issues in the mind, body, and spirit. I’ve had many teachers and have come to a perception of looking at things that helps me move past challenges. I find that remembering to come from an observer mode while looking at my life, I can detach from the drama long enough to get clarity. I watch as if I’m the movie screen and Life plays out on the screen as I’m actively watching the scenes. Invariably, I will get stuck on a scene, want to analyze it to death and not be able to move forward. I call this a “freeze frame”. Just by bringing this into awareness that I’m “freeze framing” a story, it helps me let go and allow the movie to continue. It also helps me remember everything is temporary and to just breathe through it, honoring all my feelings and emotions that come up. They are part of the story too. This also allows me to be in the present moment. Another way of moving past our stories is to hold the main neurovascular points on our forehead. They are called the “Oh My God” points. We naturally do them when we hear upsetting news. By placing our fingers or our flat palm on our forehead, just above the eyes, this technique will bring blood back to the brain so we can think better. You will see people do this or may have noticed doing this yourself. It’s a wonderful way to “unfreeze the frame”. Try it and see how amazing it works!
One day, I got a call from a friend who was always feeding cats that showed up on her doorstep. She was concerned about a very special light orange tiger cat that had won her heart and whom she affectionately called Cooper.
Cooper normally showed up every day, like clockwork, but it had been a week since she had last seen him and she feared he had died. He’d been ill and she was planning to take him to the vet, but he disappeared the very same day they were due to go. Funny how they know these things!
As I tuned in to Cooper, I sensed he was in a state of bliss. He had just left this earthly plane and was in the vastness beyond, exploring new territories. He gave me a picture of “graduating with a badge of honor”. Being free of concerns about his body, he was at peace and held no grudges.
Cooper communicated to me that life was “just a game”, where we are all inter-connected. Each one of us is part of the tapestry of life, each woven into it our own way, and having our own color of thread. His words of wisdom for this realm were to “love all you can".
Oddly, towards the end of the session, Cooper gave me the impression of singing “take me out to the ball game, take me out to the ball game” over and over. I knew it was important, so I shared it with her. Not understanding what it meant, she turned to ask her boyfriend if he knew. His jaw dropped and he looked at her with amazement. Home alone just two weeks before, he had been singing that same song over and over again out of boredom.
Life is just a game!
Excerpted from my article I wrote for the Animal Wellness Magazine Dec./Jan., 08.
Each one is unique and special, with their own soul and personality. No two are alike. Honesty and respect ranks high with them. Their special abilities include being able to look past the facade we show others and see the real us, and love us unconditionally. They see and sense energy so they know what is Truth or not. You can’t fool them. That’s why they are great at judging a person’s character. Always trust them on this, unless they’ve been abused. This can cloud their perception of people through no fault of their own.
Honoring their feelings, listening, not trying to control them, along with making an effort to understand them is the key to their heart. They always have a very good reason for why they are behaving the way they do, and it is often surprising. Looking through the lens of their eyes, their perceptions can be much different than ours, so they react differently. I have found that they can be very generous with their knowledge and wisdom when one truly listens without judging. Hard to do, right? It’s a natural reaction to not agree, to think something else because of our own belief system. All they want is to be seen, heard, loved, and respected. Doesn’t everyone? They are much like us in that way. What would happen in our own lives if we really listened to the people and animals without judging them, seeking to understand first before jumping to conclusions? Our hearts would be wide open, allowing the space for miracles to happen.
Years ago, I got a frantic call from a friend of mine. She was desperate to have me talk to her ferret that had become lifeless all of a sudden. No vets were available at the time, so she reached out to me for answers. Not being a vet, I told her that I could not diagnose, but that I would attempt to talk with him to see if he could let her know what was going on, how he felt, so she would know the best way to help him. What I found out will shock and amaze you. His mate had a tumor and would be transitioning shortly. He decided that he would go before her, so he could greet her when she crossed to the Other Side. Not wanting to live without her, he chose to leave so he could be there to calm her fears. This way, he never had to be without her and she could pass peacefully. It was his ultimate sacrifice for her. A beautiful, poignant love story. The depth of love that he had for her was beyond words. May we all be loved this much!
Do you ever feel like your pet can read your mind? I had an Irish Setter once that would be snoring in the living room and as soon as I opened the refrigerator door in the kitchen to grab some food, her head would be next to me asking "what's for dinner?". It's uncanny how they know things without speaking our intentions out loud. How do they know you are on your way home from work to look out the window in anticipation? What about waking you up at the exact same time every morning? They don’t wear watches. I believe it’s because they are masters at telepathy, which is the ability to tune into energy over distance. This is also how they know you've had a bad day so they can snuggle up next to you to support you in your darkest moments. It's their gift and it’s how they are able to communicate with us.
Before I learned animal communication, I had a dog, Bo, that surprised me one day as I was giving our other dog, Q, his peanut butter with his meds. You know how you always have to give the "other dog" whatever treat you are giving one dog so there won't be hurt feelings? I "heard" from behind me very sternly, "where is my peanut butter?" I turned around to see Bo staring me down with the most incredulous eyes filled with shock, disbelief, and anger that somehow I had forgotten him! Apologetically, I hurried and gave him his peanut butter before he had a melt down. I would have had to ask forgiveness for the next week and a half if I hadn't. That's how long poodles hold grudges. He forgave me, thank goodness. Crisis averted. A little peanut butter goes a long way!
If you want to test this out, call the name of your pet silently in your mind and then send them a picture of what you are about to do. See what happens!
